# What Is an Envelope Chain?

{% hint style="info" %}

* **Chain** — A linked set of envelopes that belong to one ordered sequence.

See the [Glossary](/glossary/glossary.md) for DocStudio term definitions.
{% endhint %}

Use it when one document flow continues in several envelopes. For example, when the next envelope is created as part of the same business process and you need to see the full sequence in one place.

### View a chain

1. Open an envelope that is part of a chain.
2. In the header, find the **Chain** section. It shows the total number of envelopes.
3. Use the list to navigate between envelopes.

The list is sorted by received date (newest first). The current envelope is highlighted. Click another envelope to open it in a new tab.
