Electronic digital signatures and e-ink signatures can be used to sign external documents. Signatures should be added to the documents on the template.

E-ink signatures work only for external documents uploaded as .pdf files.
If you add an e-ink signature field to an external document in the template, envelopes will accept only .pdf uploads for that document.
QES signing behavior
Signing an external document with QES differs from structured (internal) documents.
The QES is applied only to the .pdf version of the external document (not to the .xml file).
The signing UI is the same as for structured documents.
